A Honest Craft, A Purposeful Life

How making soap became my Serenity
How making soap became my Serenity

From a single mother’s search for something honest, to the creation of a business rooted in beauty, care, and purpose.

A Purpose Beyond Profit

When I first began making soap, it wasn’t because I had a dream—I wasn’t chasing a trend or following a passion. I needed to support my family. I was a single mother with mouths to feed, a heart full of hope, and a deep desire to create something I could believe in. I didn’t just need a product that could sell—I needed something honest. Something I could trust in my own hands. Something I’d proudly hand to my children, to my mother, to anyone I loved.

That product turned out to be homemade soap.

A Mystery in Plain Sight

No one around me was making it—not the way I imagined. There were no how-to videos, no Google, no quick answers. Soap was something everyone used daily—so ordinary, so essential. And yet, the deeper I looked, the more I realized how far removed we’d become from its making.

This simple item had been tucked behind factory doors, its process treated like a trade secret—as if only companies were meant to know. That mystery lit a spark in me. I needed to understand how something so basic had become so out of reach—and why.

The Long Road to Learning

So I searched. I flipped through encyclopedias. I visited herbal shops. I asked everyone I could. But answers were few, and the silence nearly made me give up.

Then the internet arrived—and with it, a floodgate opened. Recipes, techniques, online forums. I learned not just how to make soap, but how to craft it. The oils, the molds, the scents, the labels—every detail pulled me in.

Soapmaking became more than a product. It became something I woke up thinking about. It gave me purpose, creativity, and joy.

Ancient Roots, Modern Hands

One discovery stopped me in my tracks: Native Americans made soap long before factory bars existed. They rendered animal fats, combined them with wood ash, and created natural lye. When mixed with water and heat, it became soap—basic, powerful, rooted in tradition.

That ancient knowledge moved me. It reminded me that soap was never just a commodity—it was a craft, passed from hand to hand, generation to generation. It deepened my respect for the work ahead.

The First Bar

My first bar was humble—chunky, unevenly colored, unscented. But it bubbled. And that was enough to know I was on to something.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine. I had taken raw ingredients and created something real. I had waited, researched, practiced, and it had led me here—into a new chapter of my life.

Crafting Safely, Creating Beauty

The more I learned, the more I understood: soapmaking was possible—but it had to be handled with care. Lye is dangerous. I had children in the home. So I researched even more—how to stay safe, what equipment to dedicate, how to protect my family while still building my dream.

And slowly, I found that beauty and safety could coexist. I could make something not just practical, but beautiful.

A Designer’s Touch

Even before I had a brand, I had a vision. I wanted my soap to be a part of the homes I designed as an interior designer. I pictured a handcrafted bar sitting on a bathroom sink—just as intentional and beautiful as the space around it.

More than that, I wanted to give it as a gift to clients at the end of a project. A small thank you. A reminder of care.

From Bar to Boutique

That first bar led to more—lotions, shower gels, butters. I learned about the power of herbs, minerals, florals. Calendula for calm, lavender for peace, rosemary for clarity. Every blend was a new opportunity to create with purpose.

What started with soap grew into something more: a collection of care.

The Name Found Me

Somewhere between the scents and the stillness, the name came to me: Serenity Soaps and More.

Because that’s what soapmaking gave me—serenity. Not just as a mother or an artist, but as a woman reclaiming her power through craft. I chose the name knowing my journey wouldn’t stop at soap. I would add everything I could: oils, scrubs, bath blends—all with the same heart.

The Gift I Share

I never imagined that a bar of soap would lead me here—to a life of purpose, creativity, and calm.

Now, every bar, every bottle, every batch is a piece of that journey. If you’re looking for something crafted with care—for yourself, your family, or your space—you’re welcome here. Serenity Soaps and More, Handmade. Heart-led. One beautiful bar at a time.
